REX 2001 Exclusive Island Retreat
Nestled on a remote island shore sat a house with the location and rugged looks to offer grand potential as a well-planned vacation getaway. The owners’ idea of vacationing included friends gathered around a crab pot in the kitchen. However, the existing kitchen was not only outdated
and poorly equipped, but it lacked any kind of warm inviting atmosphere. The living room was dark and stale, hardly the comfortable gathering place it should have been. Built-in shelving in the master bedroom hung from the wall like the ill-designed eyesore that it was.
During the renovation, much thought was given to the custom cabinetry. It was to incorporate the necessary features and upgrades that the house needed, as well as create a mood of lodge-style luxury. In short, the beauty and ruggedness of the outdoor environment was to be brought inside, tamed, and shaped into furniture quality cabinetry.
The new kitchen glows with invitation, thanks to the natural
warmth of the madrona cabinets. Hand peeled logs add interest and character to the island workstation. Semi-transparent etched glass lends a sensuous effect to the overall kitchen feel.
Natural fir cabinets provide storage for games, media equipment and firewood, as well as form the flank of the stone fireplace and mantle in the living room. The refined master suite includes hand-painted vanity cabinets with his/her medicine cases. The addition of a 12 ½ foot tall library and desk unit with a custom rolling ladder finishes the suite—and house—with handcrafted furniture feel.
The house no longer has potential—it has the perfect atmosphere for a relaxing vacation!
