REX 2003 Madison Park Artistry When the new owners of this Madison Park home walked through its modest three floors, they realized that an overall facelift was in order. Not that the young house hand fallen into gross disrepair, but the drab layout and nondescript style failed to compliment their artistic tastes. For them, the house was a blank canvas upon which mood and function could be created.
At the heart of the home was a fireplace with a cold sheetrock surround. They met this challenge with a new design that called for a custom
mantle anchored to built-in fir cabinetry. The solid half-lapped doors were installed into a recessed track enabling them to slide over and conceal audio equipment. The finished result was a room that radiates warmth and provides stylish function.
In the study, bookcase cabinets provided much needed storage,
while complimenting the antique desk around which they were built.Between the stairway and dining room, a cabinet was created to form a hallway separating the two areas. While functioning in that role, it also offers an ideal display for the owners’ basket collection.
The straight lines of the master bathroom vanity harmonize with the simple curves of the above-counter lavatories. At the same time, the glow of natural fir offsets the cooler elements of glass and stone.
On the third floor of the house, the owners saw potential far beyond an attic storeroom. With the high-tech components in place, a media center was constructed. The custom cabinetry organized CD’s and videos, while the crown trim housed a motorized projection screen. As each element fit together, the attic was transformed into an appealing entertainment loft. Guided by a thoughtful sense of design, this home now showcases the artistic beauty of well-planned function.
